Fixing

I am frequently plagued by worry and anxiety. It seems to be my thorn in the flesh. In fact there are times when I feel worried and anxious and I can not pin point what it is I'm worried and anxious about. (This, I think, is related to hormones.) There are other times though that I know all too well what it is I'm stewing over. I prefer these times because then I can easily pick up that worry and hand it over to Jesus.

I sometimes take it back...but He is gracious and always lets me hand it over again.

When I can't pin point the source of my worry I'm learning to just look and fix my eyes on Jesus.

Hebrews 12:2a says, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus..." in some ways nothing more need be said. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus...and as the song goes "look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace."

All the things of this world that occupy so much of my time and attention, all those things important for carrying on life in this world are put in their proper place when my eyes are on Jesus. They are temporary, fleeting, but a vapor in comparison with the eternity I will live in and with Jesus.

When I fix my eyes on Jesus and things get put in their proper place there is no place for worry or anxiety and His peace that passes understanding floods in.

Fix, look deep into, focus alone upon Jesus. "....the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider Him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." ~Hebrews 12:2b-3

Now that my oldest child is out on his own and living life on his own terms (being the mother of a prodigal is at time troublesome to say the least) I find that this struggle to keep my perspective where it needs to be a challenge.

Sometimes it is simple a matter of worry then other times that worry turns into cold fear.

I have to do the very same thing. I keep my focus on Jesus and His word and His perfect promises.

MT 6:34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

This is so true, each day has enough trouble on its own and spending unnecessary time fretting over things that we have no control over is a huge waste of time and energy.

LK 12:25 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Would it be great if we could truly turn everything over to the Lord and never reach out and try to take it back.

I am always amazed at the audacity that I sometime have in thinking that I am more capable of worrying over a situation rather that simply trusting the circumstances to the Lord.

He always choose the perfect way.

I am ever so thankful that the Lord has an endless supple of compassion, for we all struggle with the ability to turn loose of our trouble and fully lean into God’s strength for all our needs.

God is good all the time (even when I am freaking out over ……….)

Just this evening we received yet another phone call from my wayward with a troublesome issue. I am even now struggling to not get wrapped up in the what-if’s of the situation.

I so enjoy reading your post, thanks for sharing you struggle with worry. It hits home for me and I completely understand how difficult it is to keep you eyes focused on Jesus. The world screams very loud at time, but we all have to remember that Jesus overcomes all things.

A beautiful post, Cyndy. And we all have feet of clay and need to encourage one another "to fix our eyes on Jesus" and not the problem.

And, hormones, do play a pretty big role in the emotions, when we have worries and fears that we can't really pin point.

I like what you wrote on my blog,
"God weaves a tapestry of our lives, the dark threads makes the bright threads stand out all the more."

Looking forward to your "Wednesday post"

Great post, Cyndy, you really caught my attention with your comment: "When I fix my eyes on Jesus and things get put in proper place there is no place for worry or anxiety and His peace that passes all understanding floods in." Loved it!

I know just where you're coming from...and you are right...the only way to beat the worries is to fix our eyes upon the Lord.

I also find a lot of help from Joyce Meyers' books.

Love, Tina :)
